The ConVal Cougars improved to 3-0 on the season with a scrappy win over Kearsarge yesterday.
Despite holding Kearsarge to just 15 points at halftime, ConVal had trouble capitalizing on opportunities presented to them. The Cougars struggled to get to the basket in the first half, hitting five three pointers for fifteen of their 19 first half points.
The Cougars came out more energized in the second half with an aggressive mindset led by Max Scheinblum who had 8 points in the quarter. The energy and intensity picked up and the Cougars started playing the way we're used to. In the end ConVal smoothed out the bumpy road they made for themselves, again showing patience and composure as the game winded down to grind out another win.
Every one of the ten dressed players chipped in today for a great overall team effort. All ten players also put in at least one bucket! James Cook was aggressive on offense and was the Cougars second leading scorer with 8 points, Owen Collins got us off to a good start with the first five points of the game, played tough defense, communicated with his teammates well, and somehow didn't foul out even though he had 4 fouls in the first half. Alex Heck put in his best minutes of the season so far. The young freshman rebounded well, played great help defense, and made a big transition layup at a key point in the game. Emerson Craven also played his best minutes of the season, shaking off some early struggles to hit a huge 4th quarter three pointer and a big steal on defense.
The Cougars next travel to Kingswood on Friday January 4th. Game starts at 4:30.
