Girls Varsity Field Hockey vs. Lebanon

Game Date
Sep 27, 2022
Score
COUGARS: 2
LEBANON: 3

The Cougars took the field against Lebanon. As one of the team's final home games, it was also our Pink Game, where we help raise awareness of breast cancer and raise money to help with cancer research. The field was decorated as well as having the lines painted pink for the game. The Cougars controlled the first quarter, and the game remained scoreless until late in the second quarter when Lebanon was able to sneak one on to go ahead 1-0. The Cougars did not let up and were able to score the equalizer off a pass from senior Abbey Shumway to senior Makennah McPherson to get around the Lebanon goalie. The Cougars were able to keep up the pressure and score the go ahead goal early in the fourth quarter with a pass from senior Allie Hodgen to junior Lucy Jackson, bringing the Cougars in the lead 2-1. Unfortunately, Lebanon was able to come back in the last few minutes of the game, scoring an equalizer, followed by the winning goal to finish out the game, defeating the Cougars 3-2. Senior goalie Lydia Cleveland made 12 saves on the day, and seniors Makennah McPherson, Hayden Kaltsas, Allie Hodgen and Abbey Shumway, and junior Lucy Jackson all taking multiple shots on goal. The Cougars travel to Hollis-Brookline on Friday to take on the Cavaliers.

The JV team then took the field and had yet another great back and forth battle with the bulk of play between the 25's. Sophomore Elsa Hubbard-Lemay and junior Lucy Jackson each had opportunities on goal, but Lebanon was able to make the saves. Sophomore goalie Ronia Foeking made 9 saves on the day to keep the score tied 0-0.
