Boys Junior Varsity Basketball vs. Stevens HS School

Game Date
Feb 8, 2019
Score
COUGARS: 52
STEVENS HIGH SCHOOL: 21

The JV Cougars got back on track Friday at home, putting forth their biggest win of the season, 52-21 over Stevens to move to 10 and 3 on the year.

The JV Cougars never let up more than 7 points in a quarter, only had 7 field goals scored on them, and did not let up a 3 pointer the entire game. The JV Cougars ended the first quarter with a 13-5 lead and never looked back, going up 31 to 12 by halftime.

This was a fantastic development game for the JV Cougars. Missing starter Austin Knight and their other point guard Owen Michaels, the JV Cougars gave Max Scheinblum the start at the PG slot and the keys to the offense. Not only were the JV Cougars missing these two big focal points of the rotation, but all 4 Juniors on the team, who normally are good for a combined 25-30 points, scored just 1 point combined on Friday night. The Juniors played with maximum effort while on the court, but more importantly cheered on and coached their younger teammates on the court, from the sidelines, in the huddles, and in the locker room. It was a great game for the program and showed great leadership and maturity from the older JV players.

Emerson Craven had his highest scoring effort of the JV season netting 11 points with 1 three pointer. Fan favorite James Cook netted two big three pointers in the 2nd quarter and ended with 6 points. Alex Heck also played well, receiving big minutes on Friday. Playing in their first JV game ever, both Tristan Hutchinson and Zander Carignan impressed with their play. Tristan finished with 6 points and Z had a bucket to end with 2.

In just three quarters of action, Freshman Malachi Page was the games leading scorer with 14, including an 8 point 3rd quarter. Erich Clark finished with 10 after starting up the JV Cougars with an 8 point first quarter.

Next up on the schedule, ConVal heads to Kearsarge on Tuesday afternoon (weather pending) and play their last home game of the year on Friday, February 15th. The JV Cougars only have 5 games of their season left before their tournament at Pelham the 2nd and 3rd of March.
