COE-BROWN NORTHWOOD ACADEMY: 0

The ConVal Cross-Country team headed to Coe-Brown for the Black Bear Invitational on Saturday.  Twenty-four full teams and a smattering of individuals were in attendance with well over 700 athletes traversing the 3.1-mile course over 4 races.

The girls' team had a solid day with every competing member of the team running their best time of the season!  The varsity squad was led by Rachel Hurley who averaged 6:17 per mile and finished 4th with a time of 19:30.  Teammate Clare Veverka was just 11 ticks back in 8th, followed by Schuyler Michalak who cracked the top 25 finishing in 23rd place.  With Sarah Newell and Marina McMahon rounding out the top 5 the team placed third overall behind Coe-Brown and Bishop Guertin.  The CV girls team is currently ranked 5th in the state (all divisions) and this should help them maintain their status as one of the strongest teams in the state.

The boys' team had a great day as well with a dozen season best's of their own.  Evan Coyne led the charge with a 17:19 (5:35per mile) finishing 20th overall.  Harrison Km was the second cougar across the line followed by George Shiarella and Danny Veverka who had breakthrough races.  The boys finished 15th in the team standings but were top 8 for DII schools competing.

The teams head to Alvirne High School next week for the first time to compete at the Battle of the Border where in addition to facing off against some familiar rivals the meet serves as a New Hampshire vs. Massachusetts showdown.
