To say it was a pitching duel in Hollis tonight is an understatement. Taking the mound for the Cougars was Sophomore Lily Mandel and she did not disappoint. Mandel held HB scoreless until the 4th inning when a single and a deep dropped pop fly at the fence allowed the first run of the night to score. The Cougars did not lose hope and in the top of the 6th inning the Cougars plated their 1st run on a Samantha Henderson walk and an outfield single by Morgan Bemont. The girls kept at it playing amazing defense and fighting at the plate for the rest of the regulation game but after 7 full innings the score was tied at 1-1. The Cougars went in order in the 8th and HB threatened getting 2 runners on after a fielding error but were stopped by a 3rd out fly ball to Julielle Cabana in left. The 9th was the Cougars time to shine! Morgan Bemont and Lily Mandel started the inning with a pair of singles and Mairin Burgess laid a perfect sacrifice bunt up the 1st base line for their advancement. Kendall Sullivan came to the plate and got an infield hit scoring Bemont and the over throw to first scored Mandel. Sullivan with 2 RBI's came up huge! In the bottom of the 9th, HB answered with 1 run but with 2 runners on once again a fly ball to Julielle Cabana in left field ended the inning with the 3-2 Victory for the Cougars! Mandel pitched the complete game striking out 10, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 errors and only walking 2. Her record moves to 3-1 on the season and the Cougars move to 3-2.
